chocolate chip banana bread

What can I say about chocolate chip banana bread? It’s so easy to make, and yet so delicious. There’s nothing quite like biting into a fresh piece of banana bread right out of the oven, with the warm chocolate chips melting in your mouth.

It also boasts my blog’s namesake, the BANANA. Every once in a while, I just have to do a post featuring bananas. This has nothing to do with the fact that I always end up with old bananas in the house, of course.

What it does have to do with (besides the aforementioned), is the fact that bananas are amazing. So here are 5 random facts you never knew (or at least I never knew before this little research project involving Wikipedia and some random clickbait articles) about bananas:

  1. Bananas float in water.
  2. There are approximately 1,000 different types of banana plants in the world, but most are unpalatable. The kind we usually find in the grocery store are called Cavendish.
  3. Bananas make you happy. They contain tryptophan and Vitamin B6, which together help the body produce serotonin – a natural chemical which alleviates depression.
  4. A cluster of bananas is called a “hand,” with each individual banana fruit appropriately being called a “finger.”
  5. In Thailand, it is believed that there is a mystical spirit called Nang Tani, a type of ghost that manifests itself as a young woman and haunts wild banana trees. She has a greenish complexion in order to blend in with the trees, and usually only becomes visible on full moon nights. Sounds like the makings of a pretty legit horror movie.

On that note, let’s get to making banana bread. And staying away from banana farms during a full moon.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Takes .

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a loaf pan, preferably glass.
  2. In one bowl, mix together the flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. In another bowl, mix the bananas, milk, and cinnamon. Set both bowls aside.
  3. In a stand mixer, beat the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and mix until thoroughly combined. Add in the banana mixture, then stir in the dry mixture until blended. Fold in chocolate chips, then pour batter into your prepared loaf pan.
  4. Bake for 70 minutes (or until a toothpick comes out clean). Allow to cool for at least 10 minutes before removing, then allow to cool further on a wire rack, or enjoy warm!
